This is a compulsory course for all students from the Faculty of Education. Some theories and approaches adopted for the analysis of educational policies in general as well as the analysis of different stages of the policy cycle, including policy making, policy implementation, and policy evaluation, are introduced.
40% Group Presentation and Class Participation - presenters (in groups of 5-6) act as government officials and promote an existing educational policy in Hong Kong in 20 minutes while groups that are not presenting act as parents, teachers, and students respectively and raise doubts about and criticisms of the policy (35% for presentation and 5% for comments)
60% Paper - write an essay of about 4000 words to analyze at least one stage of the policy cycle (policy making, policy implementation, policy evaluation), of one existing educational policy in Hong Kong using one theoretical perspective (structural-analytical, interpretative-political, or discursive-critical)
