This is a compulsory course for ELED students aiming at helping students synthesize knowledge learnt from previous ELED, EDUC, and even ENGE courses to formulate a comprehensive picture of English language education in Hong Kong. Topics covered include curriculum design, language teaching approaches, needs analysis, material design, teaching performance assessment, language assessment, and curriculum evaluation.
40% Seminar - students conduct a 20-minute presentation on a self-selected topic related to English language syllabus, textbooks, or assessment in Hong Kong in groups of three to four and lead a 10-minute question and answer session related to the presentation topic
60% Term paper - students evaluate one aspect of the Hong Kong English language curriculum critically in about 2500 words
