Course Description
This course is compulsory for students from the Faculty of Education while other students are welcome to take it as an elective. It analyses education from a sociological perspective mainly through two theories, namely industrialism and capitalism.
Assessment
40% Participation in Class Discussion - group discussions are carried out in 8 lectures and a written discussion report (in point form) has to be handed in immediately after the corresponding lectures (5% each)

30% Group Presentation - a debate on a controversial topic (including your own debate speech and refutations of the arguments proposed by the opposing side), a written report (in point form) of all your arguments and refutations have to be handed in before the last lecture (the lecture when course evaluation is conducted)

30% Individual essay - a 3000-word (excluding references) written essay on one of the three topics in the group presentation (may or may not work on the topic that you did in the group presentation), APA format has to be adopted
