Course Description
This courses is compulsory for ELED students while other students are also welcome to take this course. Exchange students are especially welcome to join. Second language teaching theories like grammar translation method, direct method, audio-lingual method, communicative language teaching, task based learning and drama, as well as classroom issues like cooperative learning, classroom management and questioning techniques, are introduced and discussed in the course.
Assessment
10% Reflection on teaching / learning - a written assessment task without word limit conducted in the first lecture, students are expected to reflect on and write about what they know about English language teaching and learning

10% Teaching philosophy - a reflection on what you have learnt in this course and how this course has changed your views and perspectives on English language teaching and learning (in response to the written assignment done in the first lecture)

40% Class observation report - students have to find a second language class to visit and write a report (maximum 1000 words) on the settings, descriptions of the class and reflections on teaching methodologies as well as classroom issues, if students cannot find a school or class to visit, the teacher will play a video clip of a lesson for them to watch but the quality of the videos is not so good

40% Peer teaching - students have to form pairs and conduct a 20-minute second language lesson (followed by a 10-minute Q&A session) on any topics (e.g. grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and speaking) and any levels (P.1 to F.6)
