Course Description
This is an elective course for ELED students associated with language as discourse. It introduces discourse-related concepts, such as written and spoken discourse, genre and register, cohesion and coherence, and application of discourse knowledge on English language teaching.
Assessment
40% Assignment 1 - select three authentic English texts belonging to the same text type or genre in groups of three and analyze their similarities and differences in terms of genre and register in about 1200 words
60% Assignment 2 - select one of the three texts selected for Assignment 1 individually for further textual analysis in terms of any concepts discussed in the course and explain how the text can be applied to English language teaching in about 1800 words
