Course Description
This course is a compulsory course for ENGE and ELED students and can also be counted as a faculty package for students in the Faculty of Arts. Students from other faculties are also welcome to take this as a free elective. The course invites a professor from the Department of English at CUHK, a professor from the Hong Kong Institute of Education or a professor from other tertiary institutes in Hong Kong each week to give a lecture on a specific theme related to English linguistics or literature.
Assessment
10% Attendance & class participation - attendance is only taken once throughout the whole term while tutorial participation is graded according to the feedback that you have given on the presentations of other students on the peer evaluation forms, bonus marks are awarded for participation in online discussion in the elearn platform (0.5 mark / post)

50% 2 Reaction papers - write a critical reflection on any two of the lectures (strictly 3-4 pages, APA or MLA citation formats are needed, writing prompts are provided but students need not follow exactly)

25% Cultural Fieldtrip Review - write a review based on an exhibition that you have visited (minimum 500 words)

15% Oral Presentation - conducted in tutorials, have to hand in a handout of 1-2 pages in point form, graded according to the handout submitted and peer evaluation
