It covers basic questions such as what grammar is and how one goes about studying the structure of English. Basic grammatical concepts and categories as well as the constituent structure are systemically introduced to equip students with the essential analytical tools.

Course Description
This course is compulsory for ENGE and ELED students. It analyzes English grammar by means of a descriptive approach, introducing various grammar forms as well as their functions at different levels of the grammatical hierarchy. It lays emphasis on grammatical descriptions as well as the construction of tree diagrams.
Assessment
10% Tutorial participation - 0.5% will be deducted for each tutorial absence

30% Essay assignment - write on one of the ten given topics for about 5-6 pages

20% Mid-term quiz - 10 questions / 10 marks each / 1 hour

40% Final examination - 10 questions (5 compulsory in the first part + 5 out of 10 in the second part) / 10 marks each / 2 hours
