Assessment
10% attendance, participation, Blackboard usage
Attendance for both lectures and tutorials is required. Absence must be justified; or it will affect your final grade negatively.
10% presentation: 7-8 mins; 1-page handout of key points; give a close reading of (a part of) the text according to the suggested topic
40% 30% in-class test + 10% quiz: on literary terms and required readings; reading an unseen poem
40% term paper: 7 pages (A4, font 12, double-space): Late submission will be penalized.

Course Description
This course covers English fiction, poetry and drama. Literary terms and instruction of literary texts are included.
This course is compulsory for ENGE and ELED students while students taking other programmes are also allowed to take this course.
Students must read the required texts before attending the lectures or they will not be able to answer questions asked by the professor.Assessment
10% Attendance, participation
10% Presentation (conducted in tutorials) - each student is required to conduct an 8-minute presentation on one of the assigned texts (students cannot choose when to present and which text to present on but everything is determined by drawing lots)
20% 2 Quizzes (Fill in the blanks & multiple choices) - Quiz 1: literary terms (definition + application), Quiz 2: literary terms (definition + application) + factual information of the dramas taught
20% Paper 1 (Explication of a poem - 10 choices are provided) - about 3 pages
40% Paper 2 (Comparison between two texts studied in the course) - about 6-8 pages
