Course Description
This course gives a quite comprehensive introduction to the literary styles, major writers/authors/poets in the Romantic and Modernist periods. The reading load is not very heavy and is suitable for most students without much prior literary knowledge. The course instructor is nice and gives students very little pressure on taking this course and completing the course works.
Assessment
Attendance and Participation: 20%;

Presentation and Short Summary Writing on the Presentation: 15%;

First Paper: 30%;

Second Paper: 35%

Course Description
This course is compulsory for ENGE and ELED students. It analyses some romantic, Victorian and modernist fiction and poetry as well as the related literary themes (e.g. contraries, nature, urbanization, stream of consciousness) and representations (e.g. meter, the epic, realism, free verse).
Assessment
20% Attendance & participation - no marks will be deducted for the first two absences from the lecture and the first two absences from the tutorial, and 1% will be deducted for each absence starting from the third one

15% Presentation + written summary - two presentation topics are assigned every week, and the responsible student for the week has to choose one to present on, a written summary of strictly 250-280 words also have to be handed in

30% Paper 1 - write for 4 pages or about 1200 words on one of the three topics, each related to one or two of the romantic texts covered

35% Paper 2 - write for 4-6 pages or about 1200-1800 words on one of the five topics, each related to at two of the modernist texts covered
