Course Description
This course, which is a compulsory course for ELED students and an elective course for ENGE students, is an introductory course to second language acquisition. It introduces some phenomena of first language acquisition, explains second language acquisition phenomena from multiple (behaviourist, cognitive, sociocultural, and interactionist) perspectives, and discusses issues of second language instruction and age differences in second language acquisition. Although the name of the course specifies the acquisition of English as a second language, the theories introduced and examples cited in the course are not confined to the acquisition of English but second language acquisition in general.
