Course Description
This is an elective course as well as an introductory course of semantics, which includes both lexical and grammatical semantics, and pragmatics, covering topics including compositionality, sense relations, different types of meaning, prototype theory, idioms and metaphors, argument structure, thematic roles, presuppositions, conversational implicature, and speech acts.
Assessment
10% Tutorial participation

25% Mid-term examination - 4 out of 10 questions / 1 hour

25% Essay assignment - write on one of the twelve given topics related to the first half of the course for about 5-6 pages

40% Final examination - 2 compulsory questions and 4 out of 10 optional questions / 2 hours
