Course Description
This is an introductory course to cognitive linguistics. The assumptions of cognitive linguistics will first be introduced and illustrated through concepts like image schema, categorization, metaphor, metonymy, and polysemy. The universality and language typology will then be discussed from a cognitive semantic perspective by drawing examples of time, space, and motion. The course finally draws connections between cognitive linguistics and second language instruction.
