Course Description
This course analyzes English grammar using a descriptive and corpus-based approach. Selected English language structures from the morphological level to the clausal level, such as morphemes, word classes, tense, aspect, and modality, the passive voice, grammatical functions, constituency, and clause structures, are introduced.
Assessment
10% Participation - attendance in all lectures as well as tutorials and completion of one online quiz towards the end of the course
20% Assignment - a written assignment with two questions requiring students to analyze corpus data (1500 words)
15% Group presentation - a pair presentation on a self-selected topic related to English grammar (15 minutes including question and answer session)
20% Group presentation report - a written report of the pair presentation in 2500 words
35% Test - 5 true or false questions (5 marks), 3 short questions (15 marks), 3 structured questions (25 marks) / 1.5 hours
