The purposes of this course are to provide students a basic understanding of violence that takes place in our daily life in the contexts of intimate relationship, family, school and community and to arouse their consciousness of contemporary values of equality, human rights and social justice. Various concepts and theories of violence will be introduced to explore the nature, causes, consequences and trends of violence in different aspects of life. Emphasis will be placed on the issues of interpersonal violence in contemporary societies. Social policy and provisions to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence will also be discussed.
Assessment
Class Participation (10%) + Mid-term reflective journal (35%) + Term-end Paper (55%)
