Course Description
Basic introduction to Western and Eastern philosophies. Readings: Confucius 孔子, Mòzǐ 墨子, Mencius 孟子, Dàodéjīng 道德經, Xúnzǐ 荀子, Zhuāngzǐ 莊子, Hán Fēi 韓非, Huáng Zōngxī 黃宗羲, Tán Sìtóng 譚嗣同, and Luó Lóngjī 羅隆基 on the Chinese side, along with Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Wollstonecraft, Bentham, Mill, Nietzsche, Russell, Hart, Hampton, Wolff, Wolf, Nussbaum, Taylor, and Scanlon, on the Western side.



I didn't read all of them but the readings are quite interesting even if not for assignments
Assessment
two 500 words essay 20%

final essay 750 words 20%

two pre-assigned in-class quizzes - midterm 10% final 20%

tutorial 20%

online forum 10% (extension of tutorial) max 250 words



get better grades if you read more and work hard :p no big tips
